Stevie Wonder and the Ramones

We listened to Stevie Wonder on Tuesday and we learned a bunch about Stevie Wonder. At age 11 he got sighed to play the harmonica. Later on in his life he learned how to play the guitar and the piano. When he was in his 20's he had umade and album and had lots and lots of money. What he did with his money was go to school and studied how to play music like Paul McCartney. Soon enough he got to play with Paul McCartney and there song was called Ebony and Ivory. I thought it was an ok song. Stevie Wonder is an awesome musician because he could make all these good songs and he is bling. He is a crazy good musician. We also listened to Ramones Ramones album and its good album but the songs are so short and the hole album is 29 minutes long. The first song I knew cause I heard it on the movie Jimmy Neutron. It was a bunch of songs that were fast passed with a quick beat. Most of the time you couldn't understand any of the words they would say. It wasn't the best album ever but I like it cause it was upbeat and fun.

This week I haven't done anything but perfect my song on the ukulele and what I am gonna do is on Saturday is get with Dylan Roddy and play our ukes together and become a band. But not really. I also have another friend who plays and I am gonna hook up with him another week and learn how to play some new songs. I have started to learn how to play Winter Winds by Mumford and sons and it is a very soulful song and great lyrics. I have learned the Mumford and sons album so well, Today I found out that I can listen to one song and then sing the first part of the next song before it comes on. My friend said that they are coming to Austin soon but I have checked every website online and it doesn't show that they are so I am going to go with him and see if they are actually playing when he says they are.

This week

Bobby Womack is a interesting artist. He did a lot of African American style songs. He has a very soulful type of artist and when he sings its felt and very intense. That was the way I received it At least. The other thing we did was watch the Led Zeppelin movie and it was crazy. In the movie the guitarist played his guitar like a violin. It was the craziest way I have ever seen anyone play a guitar. The thing in this movie that stuck out to me was the guitar players. The hole band was pretty good the lyrics weren't great they were mostly whining and instrumentals. There were a lot of guitar solos and it got pretty boring. It wasn't the best movie we had seen in here.

The music that I have been listening to is what I found from the belles dances that they did last week. The belles performance was really good cause they danced to some awesome songs like one of my favorite songs was ain't no sunshine and that was a beautiful dance that went with it. It was cool cause when you see people dance to a song you can see the emotion that the song has. And the belles all dance with a lot of emotion so the songs that were played you could really get into them. Two of the girls on the band did a hip hop dance to the song Thrift Shop and it was really good and funny cause all the other songs were very intense and serious. But when they danced to Thrift Shop it was fun and got everyone's attention cause it was a simple song with stupid lyrics and then it moved back to intense songs. They finished the show case with a hip hop song where all the belles danced to it and it was a good way to end it with the audience all hyped up.
In class this week we listened to John Lennon's album Imagine. And his first song on Imagine on his Imagine. Woah! I have know that song for a very long time and its on of my favorite songs by him. They are some really good lyrics and it is a very catch tune. The next song is kind of a country song and I don't really like that song cause the way they play the guitar is kind of winey and so is his voice and it just doesn't sound good to me. The third song is a soft song and I think I like it more when John Lennon sings softer songs his voice sounds better that way to me. The forth song is pretty cool cause his voice in the song sounds like he is singing through a megaphone and it had that kind of a sound to it. The fifth song is a lot of percussion and piano and one winey guitar and it sounds pretty cool. But the lyrics are repetitive and it isn't that great of a song to me the rest of the songs are all pretty good and are around this type of playing style. Except the sixth song is a pretty weird one his voice is all scratchy like I don't know how to describe it but I like it.  It's a pretty good album but I like Paul's album a bit more. I also like Paul's voice more then Johns.

In class we listened to Des Ark in class and her album "don't rock the boat sink the fucker." This album was just ok for me. There were some good thinks in there and some bad things. I like the lyrics of the songs for most of it. What got me was her voice it was so good. Usually I like music cause the tone or beat but I really didn't like the tone this time. The only flaw I had with her voice was you didn't know where she was going with it. Overall she was pretty good.

So I haven't listened to anything different  still. What I have done its learn the song 'white blank page' by Mumford. It is really fun to play and like to play it for people and sing awfully for them. My friend Andy Baxter who just put out his new album and got #5 in singer/song writer on ITunes to give me his sheet music for his songs and now I'm going to learn his stuff. I am so pumped and hope I can have a jam session with him.
